Statement from Looney and Duff on Ending Non-Medical Exemptions for Vaccinations

Today, Senate President Pro Tempore Martin M. Looney (D-New Haven) and Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff (D-Norwalk) released the following statements on the need for ending non-medical exemptions for vaccinations in Connecticut.

"It is common sense to require vaccinations for students at our public schools unless they have a medical exemption," said Senator Looney. "No amount of disinformation will change the scientific fact that Connecticut needs to increase vaccination numbers in order to protect the public health of our state and especially the health of immunocompromised children for whom her immunity may be a life or death matter."

"We must end non-medical exemptions for vaccines in our state to counter the low immunization rates we are seeing in certain communities," said Senator Duff. "It is critical that the legislature works with health professionals to take action this year."
