Senator Ted Kennedy, Jr. (D-Branford) joined Representative Sean Scanlon (D-Guilford), Representative Lonnie Reed (D-Branford) and Governor Dannel P. Malloy today to announce a major state investment in BHcare of Branford. BHcare is a state-licensed, non-profit behavioral health care provider serving Connecticut’s shoreline communities.
“With this grant we are taking one thing off the plate of BHcare so they can focus on what they do best: providing life-changing mental health and addiction treatment to hundreds of people across the Connecticut shoreline,” said Senator Kennedy. “The value of the work done by the professionals at BHcare cannot be understated. I am glad we were able to provide this support to them so that they can better support thee shoreline families that need them.”
“BHcare and their outstanding team provide vital treatment to hundreds of shoreline residents each and every day and this funding will ensure that they can keep providing high quality services in a safe atmosphere to those in our community working to overcome mental illness and addiction,” said Representative Scanlon.
“This money is essential to repair and improve BHcare facilities in Branford, venues that provide critical services to meet mental health and addiction treatment needs for friends and neighbors in our community,” Representative Reed said. “These essential services help them address challenges, pursue careers, parent children and lead productive lives.”
“We are so grateful for the support of Governor Malloy, Senator Kennedy, Representative Scanlon and Representative Reed. This funding will help us make critical repairs at two of our Branford facilities, and will allow us to continue serving more than 1,500 Shoreline residents who are working toward recovery from serious mental illness and addiction.” Roberta J. Cook, President/CEO, BHcare
Governor Malloy said, “We have a deep belief in supporting mental health while helping those with addiction achieve a second chance. We’re pleased to be able to support this funding.”
The State Bonding Commission will meet on January29 and it is expected that they will approve a $50,678 grant for BHcare. This grant will allow the organization to replace their roof and make necessary repairs to their garage.
BHcare is a regional community provider of behavioral health, addiction and prevention, and domestic violence services.
