Senator Ted Kennedy, Jr., joined Representative Noreen Kokoruda and Governor Dannel P. Malloy today to announce the approval for a grant that will allow for the completion of the ongoing Strong Center renovation project in Madison.
“The completed Strong Center project will be a great asset for the community of Madison,” said Senator Kennedy (D-Branford, Madison). “The Strong Center will attract families from Madison and surrounding communities to watch our young athletes or enjoy a concert. I want to thank Larry Ciotti for advocating for this project over the years, and am glad we were able to work together so that it will be brought to completion.”
“Madison’s Strong Field complex is vital to the town’s youth and high school sports,” State Representative Noreen Kokoruda (R-Durham and Madison) said. “I’m glad our town is the recipient of this well-deserved funding. This project has been in the making for quite some time, and I look forward to continued developments that increase quality of life and safety for our residents.”
“By partnering with our smaller towns, we can support local projects that improve centers of commerce, transportation infrastructure, and town facilities, to make our state stronger and more competitive, all while improving quality of life,” Governor Malloy said.
“On behalf of the Strong Center Board of Directors, we are elated with the grant from our state. This community project with the help of the STEAP grant is the culmination of the cooperation and kindness from the citizens of Madison, the Madison Town Government and the State of Connecticut. Madison children and residents will now enjoy a state of the art facility for many years to come. The Strong Center Board of Directors are most grateful to our donors, town, and state,” said Larry Ciotti, Chairman of the Strong Center Board of Directors.
Madison will receive $500,000 for the Strong Center at the Surf Club. The Strong Center at the Surf Club project consists of the complete renovation of the existing Town of Madison Strong Field complex. Phases I and II of the project have been completed. The funds granted in this phase will be used for construction of an entry plaza and field house, restroom and concession buildings. The fully renovated facility will provide a venue for both athletic events and cultural events including outdoor concerts and theater.
The renovation of the Strong Center is a project seven years in the making. New athletic fields, bleachers and flag poles have already been installed, as has a new scoreboard. The grant announced today will allow for the completion of this ambitious project.
