Senate President Don Williams received the Sustaining Friend of Connecticut Agriculture award at Connecticut Farm Bureau’s Annual Meeting on November 6. Senator Williams represents the 29th District — serving the residents of Brooklyn, Canterbury, Killingly, Mansfield, Putnam, Scotland, Thompson, and Windham.

Senator Williams was honored for his long term commitment to the future of farming including the establishment and protection of the Community Investment Act, farmland protection and dairy viability. “Senator Williams understands the vital role that agriculture plays in Connecticut,” said Connecticut Farm Bureau President Don Tuller, “his support has been unwavering over time.”

“This was a make it or break it year for Connecticut’s farmers,” stated Connecticut Farm Bureau Executive Director Steve Reviczky, “Senator Williams intervened to save an industry that contributes significantly to the Connecticut economy. We are very proud to award Senator Williams with this honor,” continued Reviczky.

“Connecticut’s farmers are a bed-rock of our economy,” said Senator Williams. “The dairy farmers alone are responsible for over a billion dollars of economic activity in Connecticut each year, as well as thousands of jobs throughout the state. Particularly in these difficult economic times, this is a home grown industry that we simply cannot afford to lose.”
