expected to support over 200 new jobs after it officially opens on July 9th.
STAMFORD—This morning, State Senator Carlo Leone (D-Stamford) attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for Chelsea Piers Connecticut, a new multi-sport athletic complex which company executives say will support 200 new jobs after opening.
“The opening of Chelsea Piers, and the 200 jobs it will support, is great news for both the physical and economic health of Stamford,” said Senator Leone. “I am delighted to see the former Clairol site put to such productive use, so soon after the old factory closed in 2010. Clairol was synonymous with Stamford, and now it is time for Chelsea Piers to take over that mantle and become a fixture not only for the city but the region also. Chelsea Piers will bring a great deal of fun and positive activity to our community, no doubt attracting many people to the area.”
Chelsea Piers Connecticut will open its doors to the public on July 9th.
“We are thrilled to be joining the community in Fairfield County,” said Mollie Marcoux, Executive Director of Chelsea Piers Connecticut. “We have hired a very talented pool of employees from the local area and look forward to continuing to grow our work force. After over two years of planning and building, we are very excited to welcome our first summer campers on July 9th.”
The sprawling 418,000 square foot sports complex will offer over 25 activities to club members. Its facilities include two regulation ice rinks, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, large turf fields, a gymnastics center, squash and tennis courts, and more.
Chelsea Piers will host a variety of youth, adult and professional athletic programs, in addition to private, corporate, and community events.
The complex is located in the former Clairol factory on Blachley Road, which originally comprised 770,000 total square feet. Chelsea Piers now occupies roughly half of the former factory, with the addition of a newly constructed second floor.
It was announced last October that NBC Sports will soon join Chelsea Piers at the former Clairol site, with assistance from the state’s First Five economic development program. Construction of their new studios and offices is already under way.
More information about Chelsea Piers Connecticut, including membership plans, event details, and employment opportunities, is available on the company’s website.
