The members and chairs of the new Commission on Enhancing Agency Outcomes — created by the legislature last month to identify efficiencies that will reduce costs to the state, increase access to services and improve the delivery of services to the public — detailed its membership and goals prior to its first meeting in Hartford this afternoon.
Co-chaired by Senator Gayle Slossberg (D-Milford) and Representative James Spallone (D-Essex), the commission intends to examine the state’s agencies and find ways to streamline back-office functions and improve cooperation between agencies to ultimately make the delivery of services to people across the state of Connecticut more efficient and effective.
“We know that there are major inefficiencies with how we deliver services in this state,” Senator Slossberg said. “We know that there is a better way. This commission will examine what’s working and what isn’t, where agency functions are necessary and where they’re redundant, and where we can streamline and where we can’t. This is where we can find real savings and where we can fundamentally change and improve how we do business in this state.”
“I look forward to working with Senator Slossberg and the other members of this panel to identify ways that our state can deliver services more effectively and efficiently,” said Representative Spallone. “We will welcome ideas and suggestions from our colleagues and the public as we work quickly to develop suggestions for the legislature. This is a difficult time for our state, but also an opportunity to take stock of state government and improve it.”
The chairs encouraged members of the public to contact commission members with thoughts and suggestions and said that a Web site is online at www.cga.ct.gov/gae/CEAO so that the public can easily track the commission’s work.
The chairs also said that the commission is planning a series of public forums, with dates and locations to be announced, to hear from the general public their ideas on how government can serve them better.
The membership of the commission includes:
Created through Public Act 09-2, the commission must submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the governor, the speaker of the house and the senate president pro tempore by July 1, 2009.
