Slossberg Welcomes Final Approval of State Funds for Three Local Projects

State Senator Gayle S. Slossberg (D-Milford) today welcomed the concrete prospects for ‘bricks and mortar’ improvements at three individual sites in Milford; each received final approval this morning from Governor Malloy and the State Bond Commission. The total value of the funding is more than $1.17 million, Senator Slossberg said.

The three projects include:

  • $600,000 to help underwrite renovations and additions at the home of Bridges—A Community Support System, Inc. (Bridges).
  • $551,815 for upgrades at Silver Sands State Park
  • $20,000 for infrastructure improvements at Platt Technical High School

“I’m particularly delighted with the go-ahead for the Bridges funding, which will be used to help renovate its primary building and add 1,800 square feet to its complex,” Senator Slossberg said. “There’s no question about the good work Bridges does day after day. Through support, guidance, and education they to assist all those affected by mental illness—patients and family members alike—to achieve and maintain stability.”

Senator Slossberg said the state’s $600,000 grant to Bridges will be matched through a combination of agency funds and local fundraising.

“Planned upgrades at Silver Sands State Park are welcome as well—I’m grateful to the governor and other members of the bond commission for their approval of these improvements,” Senator Slossberg said. “This beach has become increasingly popular over time and these plans for paved parking, bathhouse improvements, and easier access through enhanced ticket booths are well-timed ahead of the 2012 summer season.”

Senator Slossberg said the safety and comfort of the 900 or so students enrolled at Platt Technical High School prompted funding for repairs at that facility.

“Since there is no local funding whatsoever for the state’s vo-tech schools the state is wholly responsible for all maintenance and repairs, including these planned projects to improve lighting, repair the heating system, and replace some exterior doors,” Senator Slossberg said. “Vo-tech schools consistently add well educated, well trained graduates to the state’s workforce—these schools are well worth the state’s care and consideration.”
