Williams: New Generations Health Center to Provide Quiet Corner Families with Access to Critical Medical and Mental Health Services

New health center to serve 5,000 patients annually

Senate President Donald E. Williams, Jr. (D-Putnam, Brooklyn) today hailed the State Bond Commissions investment in the health and well-being of Quiet Corner residents as a result of its approval of state assistance to help cover construction costs of a new Generations Family Health Center in Putnam. The project addresses an urgent need for a community health center in northeast Connecticut.

“This investment in Generations Family Health Center will reduce costs by providing local access to badly needed primary care services for Quiet Corner residents,” said Senator Williams. “As a result, thousands of area residents will have the opportunity to lead healthier lives. I want to thank Governor Malloy for his support of this important project.”

The new center, located at 202 Pomfret Street in Putnam, anticipates approximately 25,000 total visits for dental, medical, behavior health and other services for roughly 5,000 patients.

The project resulted in more than 230 construction related jobs—many going to area residents. The new 9,100 foot facility broke ground in July 2011. Once complete, the new health center will house eight exam rooms, six dental operatories and three behavioral health interview rooms.

“This community health center will provide medical home for 5,000 new patients that will be affordable, and in the neighborhood,” said Arvind Shaw, CEO of Generations. “This specific health care infrastructure investment will continue to save resources from being spent inappropriately, while meeting the needs of most of the patients that walk through our doors.”

The $250,000 approved today by the State Bond Commission helps close gap in financing. Across the state Federally Qualified Health Centers reduce Connecticut’s health care costs by more than $261 million annually through preventative care, early intervention and reduction of emergency room expenditures

Generations will celebrate its grand opening August 9, 2012.
