The Start of a New Legislative Session

The 2017 legislative session is off to a great start, and I am working hard to introduce legislation and continue meeting with people to make Connecticut a better place to work, live and raise a family.

This week, I met with advocates to discuss various issues, including crumbling foundations, telecommunications, insurance, trucking, automobile retail sales, water companies, and a new casino. This week, I also voted to reappoint several Superior Court judges (including one who lives in Glastonbury) and attended meetings of the Planning and Development, Public Safety, and Transportation committees.

I have also introduced several bills for consideration by the legislature, including helping residents with their crumbling foundations, eliminating the income tax on Social Security benefits, fully funding fire training schools, the early approval of school aid by the legislature to help local school boards budget better, and in-person absentee voting.

If you have any thoughts or ideas you would like to share with me, please email me or call my office!

Connecticut is a Great Place to Raise a Family

cassanoYou’ll be happy to know—but not surprised—that Connecticut has just ranked as one of the Top 10 states in America in which to raise a family.

Analysts compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on 40 key indicators of family-friendliness, ranging from median family salary to housing affordability to unemployment rate.

Compared to other states, Connecticut ranked 3rd for health and safety; 4th for affordability, education and child care; and 15th for family fun.

North Dakota was ranked first, followed by the New England states of New Hampshire and Vermont. The bottom three states were the District of Columbia, Mississippi and New Mexico.
