Helping Veteran-owned Small Businesses

VIDEO: Vets Biz
Last week, I joined veteran small-business owners and a bipartisan group of state senators in support of a bill to support veteran-owned small businesses providing additional bidding preferences under state contracting laws. This bill, which passed unanimously in the state Senate, will make Connecticut the most "vetrepreneur" friendly state in the nation.

Retaining and attracting veteran-owned businesses is a priority for the legislature as part of our larger commitment to those who served our nation. This legislation is a continuation of a multi-year focus by the General Assembly on improving the lives of our vets, supporting them in every way possible and helping to ensure they can earn a living.

veteransIn 2015, I supported the passage of the groundbreaking Senate Bill 904, "An Act Establishing the Connecticut Women Veteran's Program," to require our Department of Veteran's Affairs to establish a program focusing exclusively on the unique needs of our returning female veterans.

In 2015, I voted to enact Senate Bill 694, "AAC Services Available to Veterans on State College and University Campuses", which will improve the on-campus services offered at our new "OASIS Centers" to our returning vets who go back to college upon their return home.
