State Aid to Repair Local Roads

road patch
As the weather warms up, towns and cities will begin repaving roads and fixing potholes. While we all want smooth drives to work and school, the cost of paving programs can put a real dent in municipal budgets. Repairing our roads is important for driver, cyclist and pedestrian safety.

In the State Senate I was able to secure funding Connecticut municipalities under the Town Aid Road program. This money will provide relief to town and city budgets so their paving programs can go further. Locally that means an extra $891,000 for Norwalk, over $336,500 for Darien.

While the bulk of this funding goes to road repaving, it can also be used for bridge maintenance, traffic signs and signals, and anything else that benefits public transportation.

Strengthening our transportation system is an important priority for me. I’m glad that towns and cities are getting more funding to meet these critical needs.

Connecticut is Going Green

energize CTThis past year, more than 987,000 Connecticut residents, businesses and municipalities took advantage of the Energize Connecticut program offerings resulting in savings of nearly $1 billion in lifetime energy costs.

With this investment in energy efficiency, Connecticut has:

  • Generated 9,258 jobs
  • Avoided lifetime greenhouse gas emissions of over 3.3 million tons (about the same as removing nearly 787,000 cars from the road for a year)
  • Received a return on investment of 180 percent across all energy systems (electric, natural gas, propane and oil)

Additionally, 154 Connecticut cities and towns participated in the Clean Energy Communities program, and more than 14,500 students, parents and educators were reached through events and smart energy curriculum training.

Best of Luck to Brien McMahon Global Studies Students

Sen. Duff at McMahon
I am really excited for the students at Brien McMahon’s Center for Global Studies who are headed to China this week. Last week, I had a great time sharing my experiences from my recent trip to China and I can’t wait to hear about their experience.

A Generous Community

Fairfield County GivingI want to thank all the organizations, businesses and individuals who helped support the Fairfield County Community Foundation’s 3rd Annual Fairfield County’s Giving Day.

Over the course of 24 hours, the Fairfield County Community Foundation raised $1,246,964.09 for our important nonprofit sector. Yet more proof that Fairfield County is an amazing place to work, live and raise a family.
