Income Tax Preparation Assistance Available

video of Senator Duff
It's the time of year when many are preparing to file their income tax returns, which can sometimes feel like an overwhelming task for residents who are unable to prepare their taxes themselves.

Fortunately, there is a program in place through the Department of Revenue Services which pairs residents who make under $50,000 annually with volunteers who have been trained to provide guidance and support in this area.

Over 25 dedicated tax volunteers who work under the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and AARP banners have prepared over 2,500 returns for Norwalk residents over the past eleven weeks. Their enthusiastic efforts have generated much needed tax refunds, earned income, child and education credits to provide economic relief to our community.

With this year's extended April 18th IRS filing deadline, they will be open on the following extended hours at the sites below to help Norwalk residents timely file:

South Norwalk Community Center, 98 South Main Street
Saturday, April 16th from 9 AM to 2 PM
Monday, April 18th from 9 AM to 5 PM

Norwalk Community College, 188 Richards Avenue
West Campus Rm. W138
Saturday April 16th from 10 AM to 3:30 PM

Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Avenue
Call for appointment 203-341-1050
Monday, April 18th from 1:30 to 7:30 PM

Darien Library, 1441 Post Road
Appointments are optional 203-569-5257
Friday, April 15th from 9 AM to 4 PM
Saturday, April 16th from 9 AM to 2 PM

Take the anxiety out of procrastination and come visit and work with their talented counselors!

A Roadmap for Growth

Senator Duff at Norwalk businessConnecticut needs an enhanced commitment to economic development, one which focuses on the cultivation of a supportive environment for new Connecticut startup businesses, as much as it continues to nurture existing companies and attract others from out-of-state. Connecticut has a long and proud tradition of innovation. That's why I have proposed legislation that will help ensure that every Connecticut innovator with a promising idea has the opportunity and the resources necessary for success.

The legislation, Senate Bill 1, aims to create a comprehensive ecosystem supportive of Connecticut startup businesses of all kinds, and across all sectors. The bill's initiatives seek to harness Connecticut's considerable economic strengths--a highly educated and productive workforce, top-tier universities, existing businesses and other institutions--and leverage them for the formation and growth of new companies.
