In the News: Streamlining Government & Building for Our Future

Last week, I joined my colleagues in the House and Senate to pass a budget that streamlines government and continues key investments in the state for job growth. There were some tough choices in there, but necessary ones for our long-term health. Since then, a number of newspapers and opinion leaders have applauded our work. See below for a sampling of these news reports.

Hartford Courant
State Budget Deal Would Dramatically Reduce Projected Future Deficits - May 11, 2016

The Day

"If the legislature adopts the proposed revisions for the coming fiscal year beginning July 1, Connecticut government will get smaller. The proposed budget eliminates a projected deficit of nearly $1 billion. It would accomplish this without more self-defeating tax increases." - May 5, 2016

Connecticut Mirror
"The tentative plan to close a $1 billion hole in Connecticut's finances starting July 1 also would wipe away more than 40 percent of the red ink threatening state government after the November elections, nonpartisan fiscal analysts reported Tuesday evening." - May 11, 2016

"The Senate adopted a $19.76 billion budget Thursday that would eliminate a nearly $1 billion deficit and significantly reduce larger shortfalls after the November state elections." - May 13, 2016

"The Senate voted early Friday morning to rebalance Connecticut's credit card in the face of shrinking tax revenues, canceling or delaying about $1 billion in financing for a wide array of projects and programs." - May 13, 2016

Hartford Business Journal
"The budget implementer bill passed by the Senate Thursday includes millions of dollars to enhance the ability of CTNext, the state's entrepreneurial development entity, to provide more programming and support for budding business owners, officials say." - May 13, 2016
