Investing in Our Schools and Housing

Norwalk Public SchoolsThis week, I was happy to join Mayor Harry Rilling, Rep. Chris Perone and Rep. Bruce Morris to announce that Norwalk is slated to receive new state funding for school renovations and a program creating homeownership opportunities

Norwalk's public schools will receive nearly $1.4 million for general improvements to school buildings. Healthy and safe modern school facilities are critical to a productive learning environment. This funding can be used to improve and replace windows, doors, boilers, heating and ventilation systems, communications/technology systems, roof repairs and installation, or upgrade of security equipment along with numerous other possibilities

The State of Connecticut will also invest $850,000 for the South Norwalk Homeownership program. The program will create homeownership opportunities through the purchase, rehabilitation and resale of single and multifamily properties in the area near the South Norwalk train station.

Additionally, Norwalk stands to receive an additional $2 million in state aid over last year's levels.

April a Good Month for Connecticut's Economy

jobsConnecticut employers added 3,500 jobs in April, according to a new report. The federal Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates there were 20,100 jobs added in Connecticut over the last year, which is a solid pace for job growth.

According to realtors, area home sales and prices rose in April. The Greater Hartford Association of Realtors said that, last month, closed sales of single family dwellings in the Hartford region rose 26 percent and median home prices grew nearly 3 percent, to $216,000, as compared to $210,000 a year ago.
