Investing in New Britain's Future

New BritainThe State of Connecticut has made several important investments in New Britain throughout the last month. I was proud to announce that the efforts of New Britain's legislative delegation were successful in securing important grants that will benefit our city's economy, education system and cultural pursuits.

New Britain will receive a $200,000 grant for detailed site planning and redevelopment, environmental analyses and identification of a Master Developer for potential Transit Oriented Development sites around the East Main Street CTfastrak station. CTfastrak has been an enormous success, spurring development along its route. By targeting the area around the East Main Street Station, we can expect to see a lot of interest from developers looking to use these properties as new residential or commercial locations.

New Britain's schools will receive $1,686,500 for improvements to school buildings. These renovations are critically important to maintaining the safety of New Britain's Schools and to promoting a high standard of education in our city. The students here are the future of this community, and this investment in their education will help build the foundation they take with them as they venture out into the world.

Finally, the New Britain Arts Alliance will be receiving $70,000 for ADA accessibility improvements at the Trinity-on-Main Annex, banners highlighting arts organizations, lighting of Trinity Tower and commission paintings by artists on lower level windows. These improvements will help attract seniors and handicapped people to the Arts Alliance as well as promote their great works to all members of the community.
