Investing in Local Health Providers

healthcareI joined my colleagues Representative Lonnie Reed and Representative Sean Scanlon to announce a major state investment in BHcare of Branford. BHcare is a state-licensed, nonprofit behavioral health care provider serving Connecticut's shoreline communities. The grant will allow BHcare to replace their roof and make necessary repairs to the garage. I am glad we were able to take this burden off of BHcare so they can focus on what they do best: providing life-changing mental health and addiction treatment to hundreds of people across the Connecticut shoreline.

BHcare is a regional community provider of behavioral health, addiction and prevention, and domestic violence services. The dedicated team at BHcare's shoreline location serves hundreds of clients each year throughout the region, encouraging them to live healthier and safer lives. For more information, visit www.bhcare.org.

Cutting the Ribbon on a Growing Local Business

branford ice
Last week, I participated in the grand opening of a third ice rink at the Northford Ice Pavilion. The Northford Ice Pavilion was originally opened in 1998, and the addition of a third rink makes it the largest ice skating complex in Connecticut. It is great to see another locally owned business thriving and expanding here in the 12th District. The rinks have hosted championship hockey games and even seen some NHL greats walk through the front doors. The Northford Ice Pavilion is a great community feature as well as an economic asset, attracting families from around the state to spend time in our community and supporting other local businesses. I offer my sincere congratulations to the Northford Ice Pavilion and look forward to seeing their success grow with the opening of this third rink.

Promoting High-Tech Education in Guilford

All Guilford Public School students will soon be learning on Google Chromebook personal computers thanks to a grant I announced last week. By educating Connecticut's students with the same kind of cutting-edge technology they will use in the real world, we are ensuring that they are trained with the skills necessary to meet the 21st century needs of local businesses and industry. The funding approved last week will ensure that from Kindergarten through their senior year of high school, all Guilford public school students are trained and familiar with computers, Internet resources, and other vital, modern technologies.

Starting in 2013, Guilford schools began equipping K-12 students with Google Chromebooks so that every student in Guilford would have access to a computer, the Internet, and modern technology. With this funding, Guilford is close to its goal of providing this access to 100 percent of students.
