Connecticut's New Economic Driver: Fuel Cell Technology Good for Energy Sector, Local Jobs

The East Hartford-based Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology has released a report showing "Connecticut's fuel cell companies produced a combined $726 million in revenues and investments in 2015," according to the Journal Inquirer.

One of the largest growing sectors of our state's economy is in fuel cell technology, which can help to lower our dependence on fossil fuels and provide good-paying careers for our residents--it is also increasingly contributing to a solid tax base for municipalities and the state.

The direct benefits of this type of technology are being felt in our own community. Doosan Fuel Cell America, which is headquartered in South Windsor at the former UTC Power facility, has grown from 30 employees to 300 since 2014, and has generated hundreds of millions of dollars in employee income among its personnel at that site and elsewhere.

The fuel cell technology boom is good news for jobs, and also for the state and local revenue. In 2015, fuel cell companies statewide brought in more than $39 million.
