New Bill Will Support Veteran-owned Businesses

VIDEO: Vets Biz
My Senate colleagues and I are pleased that a bill to support veteran-owned businesses in Connecticut received unanimous and bipartisan support in the Senate this month.

We are proud to be working for our servicemen and women to ensure they have the care and programs they need when they return home from active duty.

The legislation we passed this month will give preference and other benefits to veteran-owned businesses in Connecticut. We are continuously looking for ways to repay our residents who have sacrificed so much for us, and Senate Bill 2 does that by giving a leg-up to vets who become business owners, entrepreneurs and job creators.

Connecticut's veterans are among the most valuable assets our state has, and it's our job to make sure they have every opportunity to succeed when they trade in their service uniform to rejoin our civilian workforce.

Boston Marathon Run Raises $5,500 for Charity

marathon
This year, I was proud to run in the Boston Marathon, which was an inspiring and challenging experience.

I would like to thank the constituents, friends and family members who generously contributed donations to my CrowdRise.org account, raising just shy of $5,500 toward the two charities I ran to support--The Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation Inc. and The Michael Carter Lisnow Respite Center.

It was an honor to raise money through my run to support the legacies of these two special children by contributing to the worthy causes that have been established in their names.

Good News for Housing Market

With all the "bad news" stories that spread like wildfire on social media and elsewhere in Connecticut, I think it's important to point out that it's not all gloom and doom in our present economy.

Are you thinking about making a move? Perhaps putting your starter home on the market and purchasing something that better suits the needs of a growing family? Or maybe you're heading into retirement and are starting to thinking about downsizing to something that better meets your needs.

If any of that rings true to you, you're in good company.

Connecticut REALTORS--a statewide trade association representing over 16,000 real estate professionals engaged in all aspects of real estate in Connecticut--reports that single-family residential home sales in Connecticut increased 15.1 percent in March of 2016, compared to sales at the same point last year. That's good news for home sellers and buyers.
