Senate Passes Budget with No Tax Increases

Today, I supported and helped pass a budget with no new taxes. The budget makes long-term spending cuts, consolidates government, institutes fiscal reforms and reduces state employee benefits.

The Hartford Courant

"By passing the no tax hike budget, lawmakers will begin the process of getting Connecticut's fiscal house in order and addressing the greater challenges ahead."
    - CBIA President and CEO Joe Brennan

Sends a Strong Message to Businesses

  • Does NOT raise income tax rates

Spending Cuts & Structural Changes

  • $1.5 billion from the state's budget has been cut over the past year
  • Significantly cuts the government's payroll
  • Reduces spending on state workers by capping nonunion pensions and increasing health care premiums
  • Continues the plan to fully fund past pension liabilities including over $1 billion this year

Leverages Our Bioscience Sector & Highly Educated Workforce

  • Maintains a strong level of investment in our community hospitals, the drivers of local economies and our emerging bioscience sector
