Upcoming Info Sessions on How to Gain a Career in Phlebotomy

blood drawIn Connecticut, phlebotomists--medical technicians who draw blood from patients for lab tests--earn between $35,000 and $40,000 annually, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

This important profession is one that is in high demand in the state's growing field of healthcare, and you can receive the training and education necessary to enter this field locally.

If you are considering entering the field of allied health services, I hope you will take advantage of information sessions and assessments that are taking place at the Connecticut Center for Arts and Technology (ConnCAT) in New Haven this month.

Learn about ConnCAT's school, the phlebotomy program and admission requirements at sessions that are being held each Monday this month--but you must register in advance.

Learn more on how to register.

New Haven Reads Needs You!

Senator Winfield at New Haven ReadsNew Haven Reads has opened a fourth tutoring location at 85 Willow Street, in addition to its existing sites on Ashmun Street and Winchester Avenue.

This is great news for children in our city that need one-on-one literacy tutoring to help them achieve all that they are capable of in education and beyond, but the new location means there is a need for more volunteers and I hope you will consider lending your time to this program.

You only need to commit to one hour per week to be a part of the program, which is an excellent way to give back to the community.

If you want to have a significant impact on a child's life, visit www.newhavereads.org for information on how to get started!

Readying the Q-House for Transformation

Q-House demo
After being closed for more than a decade, our community will finally see the changes we have been fighting for at the Q-House on Dixwell Avenue.

Q-house demo dayI was moved by the passion for the project that was on display at the pre-demolition ceremony Saturday, and proud to have worked with the New Haven delegation to secure funding for this project.

Demolition of the old building should be completed by the fall, and construction on the new Q-House is scheduled to begin the following spring.

This is a great moment for New Haven and I look forward to the day we open the doors to the new and modern facility that our community deserves.
