Holidays in New Haven

Christmas treeThe holidays are officially here in New Haven, and I encourage you to take advantage of the many upcoming events that are happening in our community this month.

Among the great festivities that are happening is the continuation of the Winter Festival on the Green on Saturday, December 10th and 17th from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. The festival includes free activities like visits with Santa, horse and carriage rides, a petting zoo and carousel.

Throughout the month, there will also be caroling, a "Cider Night Lunch" on Broadway Island, Chapel Street Ice Carving Demonstrations, Festive Thursdays, live performances at the Broadway Island Holiday Stage and more.

Check out the different events and find more information at www.infonewhaven.com/holidays and I hope to see you there!

Ensuring a Safe Holiday Season

This time of year is fun and festive for many of our residents, with beautiful decorations, Christmas trees and candles lighting up living rooms and homes in our city.

But it's important to make sure that your holiday favorites don't pose a danger to you, your family or your home. Candles are a leading cause of fires during the holiday season. It's important that candles not be lit near flammable materials, and that a burning candle not be left unattended.

smoke detectorI also encourage you to make sure you have working smoke detectors in your home with a new set of batteries. It could save your life and those around you.

Visit the National Fire Protection Association for some holiday tips about how to make sure you have a safe and fire-free holiday.

The City of New Haven also has a great list of ways to help prevent fires at your home or apartment. I encourage you to take a look to find out if there are simple steps you can take to ensure you stay safe this winter!
