Advanced Manufacturing for Veterans at MCC

Community Policing
I am very pleased to announce that Manchester Community College (MCC) has just unveiled a new advanced manufacturing enrollment program for unemployed/underemployed Connecticut military veterans in partnership with the state Departments of Veterans Affairs and Labor.

As a former longtime teacher at MCC, I can tell you firsthand that the staff and facilities here and at other community colleges across the state are well prepared to help students make the most of their higher education.

But this new program for veterans is really something special.

On August 2nd, an intensive effort was undertaken to reach Connecticut's unemployed and underemployed veterans to make them aware of advanced manufacturing programs. The programs are available at seven of the 12 community colleges in the Connecticut State College and Universities (CSCU) network as part of CSCU's "Make It. Here." campaign.

These programs offer full certificate programs designed to produce the skilled workforce that Connecticut's manufacturers will need in the next decade and beyond in the fields of biomedical technology, aerospace, and other high-tech fields.

CSCU is working with the state Departments of Veterans Affairs and Labor (using their email lists and network channels) to reach out to veterans to let them know about these job-training opportunities.

CSCU's Advanced Manufacturing program has a 98 percent job placement rate upon completion it offers both part-time and full-time schedules, and often includes paid internships or apprenticeships for qualified students. Classes begin August 29th at CSCU's seven Advanced Manufacturing Technology Centers in Bridgeport, Danielson, Enfield, Manchester, Middletown, Naugatuck, and Norwich. Individual Advanced Manufacturing courses are also available at the five other community colleges located around the state.
