Today, Senator Gary Winfield (D-New Haven), co-Chair of the Judiciary Committee, released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision in Trump v. United States:
“It is dangerous to even entertain the notion that a person’s temporary status as an elected official confers them immunity from prosecution for criminal activities while in office. The fact that this egregious decision comes during a week when our nation celebrates its independence from a monarchy is particularly offensive. Our democracy is in trouble. That’s not election-time rhetoric. It’s a fact that becomes more clear with every decision handed down by this radical court. This latest ruling should serve as a clarion call for everyone who believes in accountability. Vote as if this nation is in danger. Because it is.”
