SENATOR ANWAR LAUDS STATE’S EXPECTED RELEASE OF $25 MILLION TO SUPPORT CRUMBLING FOUNDATIONS

Today, State Senator Saud Anwar (D-South Windsor), who serves as a member of the bipartisan Crumbling Foundations Caucus, lauded the State Bond Commission’s expected approval of $25 million in funding to support the Crumbling Foundations Assistance Fund. For several years now, the Assistance Fund has played an important role in supporting and protecting homeowners who were negatively impacted by crumbling concrete in their homes’ foundations.

“For nearly a decade now, the disaster of crumbling home foundations has had a heavy impact on so many homeowners across northern and north-central Connecticut,” said Sen. Anwar. “I’m glad the state is continuing to provide this vital funding to support our residents who are continually impacted.”

The State Bond Commission’s agenda for its August 7 meeting contains, among many other projects, $25 million to support the Crumbling Foundations Assistance Fund, which provides aid to families and homeowners whose homes’ foundations utilized compromised concrete from a Connecticut quarry. As many as 34,000 homes built between 1983 and 2000 may experience compromised conditions.

Sen. Anwar has worked with colleagues on the Crumbling Foundations Caucus to achieve improved results for residents fighting deteriorating conditions in their homes. In 2021, the state passed legislation aiming to aid these homeowners by making it easier to reassess properties, funding a study on nonresidential buildings and establishing standards for quarries and building tests.
