SENATOR ANWAR NAMED ENVIRONMENTAL CHAMPION, RECEIVES PERFECT SCORES FROM CT LEAGUE OF CONSERVATION VOTERS

State Senator Saud Anwar (D-South Windsor) was named an Environmental Champion by the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters for his advocacy for policies supporting the state’s land, air, water, wildlife and climate in the 2024 legislative session. One of just three Senators and 12 total legislators to receive the distinction this year, Sen. Anwar also received 100% scores from the CTLCV for his support of the state’s environment and his support of pro-democracy policies in this year’s legislative session.

“The natural world around us provides us with clear air, clean waters and a beautiful state. It’s our responsibility to conserve and protect these incredible resources, and I’m honored that the League of Conservation Voters has provided me with these distinctions,” said Sen. Anwar. “This year, my colleagues and I worked to prevent pollution from the forever-chemical PFAS, support increased access to solar and renewable energies statewide and take action against invasive plants, among other actions. The CTLCV’s focus on voting rights is a further reminder of the way our world is interconnected, reinforcing its overall mission. I’m proud to receive the CTLCV’s support and will keep this in mind as I continue to work toward a better Connecticut.”

In addition to being named an Environmental Champion, Sen. Anwar received 100% scores from the CTLCV for his advocacy for environmental and democracy issues, with the latter focused on voting rights. Among the policies Sen. Anwar supported were bills supporting climate resiliency and food scrap diversion to reduce waste in the Environmental Committee, bills expanding access to solar energy including support for educational procedures, and advancing and enhancing the state’s ban on use of products containing PFAS, a “forever chemical” tied to negative health outcomes through pollution.

Sen. Anwar received further support as he supported legislation strengthening election integrity, security and transparency by increased monitoring of absentee ballot drop boxes and safeguarding election workers’ personal information.

He was one of 18 Democratic State Senators to receive 100% scores from the CTLCV; average scores for Democratic Senators was a strong 97%, while Republican Senators averaged a score of 50%.
